[Wii] Legend of the Dragon

This game started well, its like a walk around beat em up but with swirling Final Fantasy style battling. Very tasteful – the graphics are Manga/Cartoon style and start to grow on you.

The problem is the fighting. I’m yet to be swayed by any form of 2D scrolling screen fighting game on the Wii (MK, Street Fighter – that sort of game) And this isn’t helping the ‘sway’.

The fighting has a 3D angle which helps – and a “Power-up-into-an-animal” sort of ‘Rage’ bar – which is groovy for the first time. But after about 3 battles of random swinging – the game turns into a button bashing race to fill the ‘monkey bar’ to turn into your power animal spirit thing. Once you have this and the other player doesn’t – its pretty much a short sprint of button bashing to use your super powers against an ‘un’ super powered foe who seems to take triple damage in that particular situation.

Not groovy at all.

The special moves must require some sort of action swing with timely B and A bashing – but I was not able to string together the super special combo power moves that the computer was inflicting on me.

The destructible scenes don’t seem to get much destructing – as it requires the aforementioned super moves to put someone through them – so once in a blue moon – set the VCR to record – is the usual motions you’ll go through when you see the background destructing super moves!

All in all – its worth a punt for a while (I think its not the most expensive game on the shelf) and if you’re a little bit younger then me (I reckon a 14 year old will love it!) and can get hooked if you perhaps choose a different character to me (I was the lizard chick) and find out that everyone else moves are really easy to perform.

But that’s a lot of “IF’S” – I think its worth a go for the kids :)
