This game can be analysed really easily – and I can happily recommend it to people with only one question (and its not even a tricky one!)
“Do you like Max Payne?”
Well if you have answered yes – then boy have I found the game for you – because this is it – only with Chow Yun Fats face pasted over Max’s!
It’s the exact same ‘bullet-time’ aspect as you have come to love (or loathe if you answered ‘No’ earlier) but with a couple of twists.
You can store loads more weapons – and have unlimited ammo for your pistol – which has an almost legendary fire rate. But it does throw in a couple of ‘unlike max’ twists such as the ‘freebie’ bullet time you get when you climb over things. See that handrail there? Well walk up to it and you will suddenly start grinding it with your but cheeks – and if any bad guy should accidentally find himself in your crosshair… that’s right freebie bullet time! Everything slows down (mid grind) as you unleash 6 shots per quarter second at the unlucky sun-of-a-Jap.
The game varies wildly from difficulty, some times they are literally queuing up to be cut down then other times they seem to develop “chicken-sh!t-i-tuss” which means they ALL hide behind stuff and wait for your magic slow-motion grind to end before all popping out and leathering the crap out of you.
However, if you managed to grind down the stairs or slide across a moving dinner cart, whilst simultaneously nailing four guys with only 2 shots – you will be awarded more ‘stars’ then that of ‘Johnny-Button-Bash’. So with these masterful trick shots – you do manage to fill your gauge which can have many uses from health to slow motion long distance sniper shots…
All in all, its good for all you action fans – and you may be able to stomach it further then me (just past the drug-island/floating-dope-factory levels).
But it’s a good game, good graphics with a lot of fun built in. Just got to make sure that Max Payne is your cup of tea first.
