Eternal Sonata
Maximum Players 1 Minimum Players 1
Type of Player To Accommodate: “The Final Fantasy Type”
Id literally been in tears. Square Unix had decided to only bring out the new Final Fantasy on PS3 – damn them!
I was running out of RPG ‘fixes’ and needed to deeply immerse myself into a new one! No sooner had I wiped away the last year I had to shed, and I hear the cry of Eternal Sonata!
This game has it all for us RPG’ers! It has a fantastic storyline, fantasy style graphics, speech (rather then purely written text – Final Fantasy Take Note!) everything!
It wasn’t as turned based as ‘FF’ but you had to move and swing and cast and all sorts in your characters allocated ‘Action Time’. This seemed rather novel and sexy to me – very ‘renegade’
However, once my characters were getting tougher – I noticed that my ‘party level’ was increasing… What might’s of magic could this unlock? Bigger Weapons? More Character Slots? Cash? Money? JEWELS!?!… No. The higher your party level gets – the less time you have to move. Considering that swinging your sword costs you a second or two – my 5 attacks of moderate damage, after a few levels became one swing of BIG damage. But then as (obviously) we progress – the monsters become tougher. So after 8-10 hours of gameplay – I now have enough time per turn to dish out a ‘Love Tap’ to the jaw of the biggest monster out there – whilst they savage me from afar with the worlds most (well animated) spells of destruction.
Needless to say, at this point I firmly placed the game back in the case and condemned it to my shelf of disgust (with other games I wont be playing again!)
Such a shame, sexy graphics, good story, genius gameplay idea – then they break this time limit stuff out and handicap the crap out of the stronger players?
Why?
Why would you do this?
Did I wrong you in a previous life?
Out of Spite?
Either way – I wont be recommending this to people – even if it does give you 3-4 hours worth of beauty, class and elegance. The ensuing hours of heart ache as your party is ripped away from you in some twist of ’rules’ I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemies.
Well – perhaps my ‘worst’ but definitely not my friends!
No recommendation here I’m afraid.
